New corporate board gives Teenage Cancer Trust regional backing

Senior members of the region’s business community have given their support to Teenage Cancer Trust.

The national charity has recently formed a North West Corporate Advisory Board, which aims to raise awareness and profile of the charity across the region as well as support its corporate fundraising income.

Board members are made up of CEOs and directors of organisations across the North West.

They include; Tom Samson, CEO, Small Modular Reactors Consortium at Rolls-Royce, Sheona Southern, managing director at Marketing Manchester, Brad Miller, group transformation director at Manchester Airports Group, Ged Mason OBE, CEO at Morson Group, John Ogden, managing director at CBRE,  Vicky Russel, director of strategy, brand & partnerships at Property Alliance Group, and Ali Nowroozi, founder of Masumi Headwear.

For more than 30 years, Teenage Cancer Trust has worked in partnership with the NHS to create specialist cancer services for teenagers and young adults.

It has grown into a £16m charity having built 28 world-leading, age-appropriate hospital wards and funded an award-winning team of over 100 specialist nurses and support staff.

Through the newly formed North West Corporate Advisory Board, the charity will be working game-changing individuals and business leaders/influencers who can support the much-needed income it needs to maintain its services to help all young people with cancer.

Paul McKenzie, director of fundraising at Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “We can’t thank the North West Corporate Advisory Board Members enough for volunteering their time and providing expert knowledge, which is key in helping us grow awareness and additional support from across the business community in the region and beyond.

“Cancer is tough and can leave teenagers and young people feeling isolated, scared and out of control. It can have a lasting impact on their future, even for those who recover.

“Teenage Cancer Trust puts young people in the best possible place, physically, mentally and emotionally, for their cancer treatment and beyond.

“We are completely dependent on donations to achieve this as we receive no Government funding which is why the support of the new North West Corporate Advisory Board is so vital.

“Together, we can reach every young person facing cancer.”

Sheona Southern, MD of Marketing Manchester said: “Knowing about the crucial work of Teenage Cancer Trust, I can see the life changing difference it makes to young people’s experience of cancer.

“I’m delighted to join the NW Teenage Cancer Trust Corporate Advisory Board along with other business leaders to raise the profile of the charity in the North West, especially at a time when young people with cancer risk being even more isolated and vulnerable than ever.

“So, I want to play my part in helping the charity to thrive through and beyond the pandemic and ensure that no young person has to face cancer alone.”
