Five-year housing plan in Bolton bolstered by latest developments

Plans for Lever Gardens

Work has begun on 168 new homes in Bolton, as part of a five-year scheme to create 1,400 affordable new houses.

The schemes, by Bolton at Home, which is working with development partners, are located in Little Lever and Horwich.

The Little Lever development involves Bolton at Home and Caddick Construction on a new Extra Care facility aimed at the over 55s, featuring 62 one- and two-bedroom apartments and six bungalows.

In Horwich, the plans involve 47 new homes for affordable rent and shared ownership on land off Singleton Avenue.

Meanwhile, 53 homes for affordable rent and shared ownership are being built at Rivington Chase in partnership with Irwell Valley Homes.

Bolton at Home has also acquired more than 50 new-build homes from private housebuilders and developers under section 106 agreements in the current financial year.

Jon Lord, group chief executive at Bolton at Home, said: “New housing has to help people in a wide range of circumstances, which is why we’re developing a broad mix of new properties including homes for rent, some for shared ownership and supported housing.

“These latest affordable homes will offer that choice in the areas where people need them most.”

He added: “The new homes won’t just benefit the people living there. They help us to generate income that we can reinvest to improve our older properties, provide important community services, and keep rent levels affordable.”

Contractor Whitfield and Brown is working with Bolton at Home to build the homes at Singleton Avenue, Horwich, while the Rivington Chase homes are being built by contractor Lane End.
