Approval for multimillion-pound Blackburn canalside care development

Plans for the Blackburn scheme

Plans for a multimillion-pound canalside care development in Lancashire have been given the green light.

Property investment and development firm, Urban Village Group, has received detailed planning consent for a senior living scheme at Eleanor Street, in Blackburn.

The site will provide 70 en-suite rooms and seven supported living apartments..

Each of the four floors will have its own external terrace with views of the canal and conservation area, to the town centre.

Nick Sellman, chief executive of Birmingham-based Urban Village Group, said: “We are grateful to Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council for their support and excited at the prospect of starting construction of our latest development later this year.

“Our care home in Blackburn forms part of our mission to improve senior living provision in this country and will be a fantastic facility for families in the region.

“With old age, the level of disability and dependency increases and impacts enormously on the demand for care services, with around 400,000 older people in care homes in the UK. Urban Village Healthcare is determined to help meet this demand.”

The site, which backs on to the Leeds Liverpool Canal, will feature communal facilities such as a lounge, hairdressers and a gym, with associated parking and gardens.

All the town centre amenities are within walking distance. Once completed, the care home will be let to Bracebridge Care Group for a minimum of 25 years.

Urban Village Group is an investment and development business with a portfolio of developments across the UK.
