Late summer start planned for 380-home Cheshire development

Orchard View site

Planning approval has been granted for a 380-home development in Northwich.

Cheshire West and Chester Council gave the go-ahead for the affordable housing scheme which will include properties for shared ownership, rent to buy, affordable rent and social rent.

About 30% of the site will be available on the open market for outright sale and private rent.

Orchard View will comprise one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom homes as the centre of a thriving community.

The scheme, off Hargreaves Road, to the west of Griffiths Park, and including part of the former ICI Wade Works site, will be built by Birchwood-based housing provider Your Housing Group (YHG) in partnership with Anwyl Homes.

Richard Jones, director of growth for YHG, said: “It’s fantastic to get the green light for Orchard View. Thanks to the support of Cheshire West and Chester Council, these plans will allow us to transform this brownfield site into a thriving, vibrant community in Northwich.

“It is another step forward for us, in our mission to build quality new homes across the region and help increase access to affordable housing for people.”

Cllr Matt Bryan, cabinet member for housing, planning and climate emergency, said: “The council welcomes Orchard View to Northwich along with the addition of more affordable housing in the town.

“In an environment where people’s cost of living is rising, it is important that people can still afford to get on the housing ladder. By making homes available for shared ownership, rent to buy, affordable rent and social rent, it will mean more people are able to afford to set up homes of their own.

“The council is already investing in Winsford town centre and this development further confirms our ambitions for the area.”

The development has been funded through Your Housing Group’s Strategic Partnership with Homes England. Your Housing Group was announced as one of the Government Housing Agency’s Strategic Partners in January 2019, receiving £87.5m of funding in line with the Government’s aspiration to provide 40,000 affordable new homes across the country.

The land was purchased in December 2019. Remediation work is under way and building work is expected to start on site in late summer 2022.
