Doorstep delivery dairy, McQueens, is to double the workforce at its Manchester distribution centre, less than 12 months since it was opened.

The Trafford Park site already employs 35 staff, and the Glasgow-based business aims to increase that to 70 by the end of this year.

The expansion is due to an increase in demand from residential, offices and private nurseries for its doorstep delivery service and returnable glass bottles.

McQueens was founded in 1995 by chairman Michael McQueen and his wife Meg and now operates 14 distribution depots across Scotland and England employing hundreds of staff, including the couple’s five children who hold senior positions within the business.

The depot in Trafford Park serves the company’s thousands of new doorstep delivery customers across Greater Manchester and adds a further local distribution centre complementing its other North West England depots located in Altrincham, Warrington and Preston.

Michael McQueen, managing director of McQueens Dairies, said: “The rapid growth of our Trafford Park distribution centre is driven by the demand across Greater Manchester for doorstep deliveries and for returnable glass bottles.

“We are looking to double the size of the workforce in the next 12 months to accommodate the increasing numbers of new residential, office and private nursery customers using our service. Our aim is to increase our local workforce even further next year.”

McQueens Dairies has distribution depots in Manchester, Sheffield, Mansfield, Bradford, Warrington, Preston, Stockton on Tees, Carlisle, Northampton, Birmingham, Glasgow, East Kilbride, Kirkcaldy, Galashiels and a modern, state of the art dairy in East Kilbride.
