Stockport-based power network operator, Electricity North West, is to recruit 33 apprentices.

It said the new roles will play a key part in the network’s ambition to lead the North West to net zero while keeping its costs down.

Open to people aged 16 and above, successful applicants will be in training for up to three years at the power network operator’s state-of-the-art training academy as well as various depots throughout the region.

Chief executive, Ian Smyth, said: “We deliver one of the most reliable electricity networks in the country and this latest recruitment drive is a testament to our ongoing investment in the region.

“Our new intake of apprentices will play a crucial role in enabling more people to adopt low carbon technologies such as electric heat pumps and electric vehicles.”

Electricity North West’s apprenticeship programme has earned the highly prestigious North West Recruitment Excellence Award at the National Apprenticeship Awards with the judges praising its focus on inclusion and diversity, school engagement and career progression.

Chris Havard, training academy and apprenticeship programme manager, said: “Our apprenticeship programme generates huge interest and we have many successful people in our teams who started out as apprentices.”

Apprenticeships available include IT project management and cyber security, civil engineering, operational engineers, design engineers, underground cable jointers and overhead line workers.

The deadline to apply, via the company website, is Sunday, February 12.
