Jobs boost for Stockport as ID business makes German acquisition

Digital ID, a Stockport based creator of security photo ID cards has acquired Identbase, a German company in the same industry.

The acquisition will see the opening of up to 25 new jobs in Stockport over the coming year.

The acquisition brings the headcount of Digital ID to 160+ staff located across six offices in the UK, Sweden, Holland, Germany and Austria. The deal also combines UK based Digital ID with Identbase of Germany, Plasco, AlphaCard and ID Wholesaler located in the US.

Based in Meppen in north western Germany close to the Dutch border, Identbase distributes photo identification and access control products, such as card printers, printed cards, consumables and card wearing accessories.

Launched in 1990, Digital ID helps businesses and organisations of all sizes with secure photo ID card printing and access control requirements.

Now in its 32nd year, in 2018, the company was acquired by Barcodes Inc, North America’s leading provider of barcode, mobile computing, and RFID (radio frequency identification) solutions.

Now in its 32nd year, the business has offices in Stockport, Oxford, Gothenburg, Amsterdam and now Germany and Austria.

The value of the acquisition has not been disclosed.
