Barratt/Peel submits plans for Pemberton colliery

THE new partnership between Barratt Homes and Manchester-based Peel Group have announced plans to build 195 homes on the former Pemberton Colliery site in Wigan.
The partnership, which will bring forward housing schemes on several Peel sites across the north of England, also confirmed plans revealed by TheBusinessDesk.com last week to build 268 homes on a site close to Liverpool airport.
The firm has already secured outline planning for a mixed-use scheme at Pemberton Colliery containing 195 two, three, four and five-bed houses. It said land reclamation would begin later this year with a view to the first buyers moving in next summer.
The 268 unit estate off Speke Hall Avenue will contain everything from 1-bed lats over garages of 490 sq ft to 4-bed detached houses of up to 1,426 sq ft. It is expected to take up to eight years to complete.
Louise Morrissey, director of Land and Planning at Peel Land and Property, said: “We have worked hard jointly with our partner Barratt Homes to be able to submit these planning applications so soon after entering into our Framework Agreement.
“The early delivery of this development will help to maintain the recovery of the house building industry and will provide much-needed employment opportunities and quality, new, family homes.”
Neil Goodwin, managing director of Barratt Manchester, added: “We are pleased to have progressed rapidly to the detailed planning application stage on these two sites and we look forward to a constructive and positive dialogue with the Councils, residents and all other interested parties.”
