Chester University strengthens links with China

A DELEGATION from Chester University has visited seven prestigious universities in China to increase the opportunities to work together.

The group attended high-level meetings with the senior management teams and presidents of universities in Shanghai – namely Tongji University, Jianquaio College and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.

It also visited Wuhan University World Trade Organisation and Wuhan University of Technology as well as Renmin and Peking Universities in Beijing.

Discussions took place to explore the opportunities for staff or student exchanges and dual degree programmes in business and management studies.

The partnerships would involve Chinese students studying the first two years of their business degrees in China and then transferring to Chester for a further two years to complete a BA (Hons) degree.

The delegation also visited the Shanghai World Expo where the Liverpool Pavilion, which features the University of Chester, will attract some 750,000 visitors this year.

The delegation comprised Dr Chris Haslam (Pro-Vice-Chancellor), Professor Kevin Sykes (dean of international development), Kay Kent (director of corporate development) and Dr Henry Sun (visiting professor).

Dr Haslam said: “These exciting new developments will not only help bring important international student fee income into the University but will further strengthen the university’s growing international reputation and secure its position it as a global 21st-century player.”
