City’s talent pool the key says SPX boss

THE boss of Fortune 500 company SPX has praised Manchester as a business location as he launched the company’s new shared service centre, which will create 200 jobs.

Chris Kearney, said the city’s talent pool of well-qualified, multi-lingual employees had persuaded him that Manchester was the right choice.

SPX, a global engineering company serving the energy, automotive and food and drink manufacturing sectors, announced the investment in Manchester last November.

It has already recruited 40 people, mostly in accounting, financial and HR roles. A further 60 will join by the end of the year and within three years, 200 people are expected to be based at the 25,000sq ft office at the Towers Business Park, Didsbury.

Mr Kearney told TheBusinessDesk.com: “We looked at several locations throughout Europe but Manchester has a very dynamic business environment and a pool of highly skilled professional people.

“There is also good international connections and a well-developed Shared Service Centre community. We are very impressed with the region and are looking forward to growing the SPX European shared service centre to support our operations in a part of the world that is becoming increasingly important to SPX.”

SPX already employs around 1,000 people in the UK at 12 different manufacturing locations. The Manchester investment is its first in the North West.

SPX chose Manchester after working with the city’s inward investment agency MIDAS, other partners including the North West Regional Development Agency.
