Landowners seek more time for Lancaster scheme

LANDOWNERS in Lancaster have applied for an extension to outline planning permission for a major redevelopment scheme in the city.

Rochdale-based Michael and Diane Foy have submitted the application to extend earlier permission for 356 houses and 136,000 sq ft of commercial space, including a neighbourhood centre, at the former Williamson’s lino factory site at Luneside West.

Plans for the 26-acre site were originally submitted by the Warrington office of developer Countryside Properties in 2005.

Lancaster City Council’s planning committee has been advised to approve the application subject to certain conditions, including a pledge to make 20% of the homes “affordable” and a contribution of nearly £600,000 to public transport costs.

The application will be considered at a planning meeting on July 26.
