Bolton’s Proffitts falls to administration

LONG-STANDING Bolton furniture shop Proffitts of Great Lever has been put into administration with the loss of half its staff.

Christopher Ratten and Jeremy Woodside, from the accountancy firm RSM Tenon, have been appointed to the business which is controlled by the fourth generation of the Proffitt family.

The administrators are trading the firm and looking to sell it as a going concern, but they have made six of the 12 staff redundant.

Mr Ratten said: “It has been decided to place the company into administration due to pressing financial distress and cashflow difficulties. This is a historic and iconic business in Bolton, and its future is important to the town.”

Proffitts was established as a drapery shop in 1905 by George Proffitt.
