Christie enjoys pub cheer

AGENTS Christie + Co has completed the sale of two pubs in Greater Manchester, and been instructed to sell two other venues.

The firm has just sold The Whitworth pub in Rusholme off an asking price of £500,000.

The freehold of the property has been sold to Vinelife church, which will convert the former trading areas into a meeting room and a coffee shop serving the local community. NHS workers and students will also be provided with space within the building.

The agency has also sold the former Weavers bar in Cheadle village for an undisclosed sum to Istanbul Restaurant Company.

The company operates Cafe Istanbul venues in Manchester city centre and Didsbury, and said the new Cheadle restaurant will open in spring following a refurbishment.

Meanwhile, the firm has also been instructed to sell the lease of the Moor Top pub at Heaton Moor in Stockport. The pub seats 120 within an open-plan lounge, dining area and public bars and has takings of £7,000 per week based purely on beer sales. It also has three-bed owners\’ accommodation.

Associate director Keith Stringer said: “Moor Top offers an excellent opportunity to complement its existing wet sales by developing a casual dining offering in this affluent south Manchester suburb.”

It has also been instructed to sell the Sailors Return bar and restaurant in the historic town of Beaumaris, Anglesey.

The Sailors Return is on the market because John and Elaine Rigby, who have owned and operated the business for the past 11 years, wish to retire.

The Sailors Return\’s restaurant has 55 covers and there are also three en-suite letting bedrooms. It has a turnover of £340,748 and an adjusted net profit of £57,481. \

It is on the market for £450,000, but the Rigbys have said that they are willing to take a part payment of £125,000 with the remainder in deferred consideration from a suitably qualified buyer.

Mr Stringer said: “The Sailors Return offers an ideal opportunity for a motivated owner-operator to build on the goodwill that has been established over the past 11 years, and extend the current lifestyle trading hours, thereby maximising both the turnover and profitability.”
