Chess swoops for Yorkshire’s Little Big One

CHESS, the deal-hungry North West telecoms group, has swallowed Little Big One, a Yorkshire-based phone, network TV and ultra-fast broadband provider.

Terms of the deal, Chess’s fourth acquisition of 2013 and its 70th of the last six years, were not disclosed.

Little Big One exclusively operates in south Yorkshire covering Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham.

David Pollock, chief executive of Alderley Edge-based Chess said: “Little Big One as is a great strategic fit for us and where we want to be heading in the near future.

“We’re very excited at having access to the South Yorkshire digital region, it’s a great sales opportunity for Chess and all our partners. As an ambitious organisation this acquisition will challenge us to embrace change and also strengthen our ability to grow.  Our people have the expertise, talent and skill to welcome our new customers on board and provide them with a level of service that exceeds their expectations.”

Teresa Robbins, director at Little Big One added: “Chess has built a reputation over the years as an acquisition specialist and after our first meeting it was obvious they had the experience and knowledge to manage a seamless acquisition.

“It was important for us to leave our customers in safe hands and we couldn’t have asked for a better acquisition partner than Chess for our customers moving forward.”

Last week Chess announced it had extended its funding line with Barclays by £10m to £25m to support more deals.
