Green light for major Cheshire employment scheme

CHESHIRE East Council has approved the construction of a business park at Wardle airfield near Nantwich.

Phil Posnett, who owns Wardle airfield north of Nantwich, wants to convert it into a 160-acre industrial estate.

The former RAF Calveley is now used as agricultural land but Mr Posnett’s Haughton Estate wants to develop around 1.3 million sq ft of employment space.

This will include 40% for distribution purposes, 40% for light industry and 20% general industry with the potential for 1,800 jobs.

Conor Vallelly, principal planner at HOW Planning, advised on the case. He said: “Wardle has long provided an important focus for employment users however this consent will now allow a more strategic approach to be taken towards the future growth and enhancement of the area. The proposals will deliver much needed investment and jobs which aligns with the Council’s ambitious plans for sustainable economic growth and delivery of new housing.”

Planit provided masterplanning and landscape services and SCP advised on transport matters. Fisher German Denton Clark and Lamonts are retained as joint agents.
