Chester business quarter ‘could create 1,100 jobs’

COUNCILLORS in Chester will today discuss the creation of a Central Business Quarter in the city.

A document prepared ahead of the meeting shows the site, to the east and south of the railway station, could offer 500,000 sq ft of new office space and 150,000 sq ft of retail and leisure.

Cheshire West and Chester Council believes the quarter will create 1,100 new jobs and of these 870 will offer, “high-value knowledge-based office employment”.

“It is therefore a major scheme with huge potential to drive significant economic growth and transform the in-centre commercial offer,” says the report.

The council received 80 written responses on the plan during a six-week consultation period. A planning application is expected later this year.
