Charities set to share £6m from Great Manchester Run

BUSINESSES will help boost charity coffers by around £6m through their support of this weekend’s Bupa Great Manchester Run.

A record 160 companies will have almost 2,700 representatives among the 40,000 runners completing the 10k run through the city on Sunday.

Handforth-based Pets at Home, the country’s largest pet supplies retailer,
has the biggest business team with 127 of its employees hoping to raise around £15,000 for Support Adoption For Pets.

N Brown Group, the multi-channel retailer which has its headquarters on Dale Street, will have 124 runners raising funds for local charities The Christie and Moodswings.

Prizes will be on offer for small, medium  and large companies through the
‘Business Challenge’ which is staged within the race.

David Hart, from organisers Nova International, said: “”We’re delighted that businesses of all sizes from across the region are turning out in record numbers to take part.

“It demonstrates the depth  of support for the Bupa Great Manchester Run and the determination of companies and their employees to raise money for good causes.”

The elite field is led by Ethiopian star Kenenisa Bekele, the world and Olympic record holder at 5,000 and 10,000 metres, and Wilson Kipsang, of Kenya, who hold the world record for the marathon.
