Towergate Insurance confirms Manchester move

TOWERGATE Insurance is to take on 400 people at a new contact centre in Spinningfields.

TheBusinessDesk.com has previously reported that the insurer was under offer on 36,000 sq ft at 3 Hardman Square in Spinningfields.

This deal has now been confirmed, with Towergate saying the office will serve its small commercial and consumer clients.

The company said it worked with Manchester’s inward investment agency MIDAS – after ruling out other UK locations – and settled on 3 Hardman Square because its location, “offered straightforward access for the right workforce”. It plans to start a recruitment drive soon.

Neil Galjaard, chief executive of the new Manchester business, said: “We’re determined to build something special at this new centre in Manchester. We’ve got a modern stylish building with the facilities and location to attract high calibre candidates.

“The office is being fitted out with cutting edge technology to create a great working environment. We’re investing because we want to attract people who are passionate about customers and who want to build outstanding careers with us. We’re hiring team leaders and advisors with the customer focus and drive to build solid relationships with clients.”

Tim Newns, chief executive of MIDAS, said: “MIDAS is delighted to have supported Towergate in bringing its new contact centre to Manchester, adding what is an incredibly strong financial services brand to the city. Spinningfields has become a destination of national and international significance for financial and professional services organisations and this latest investment will continue to cement that reputation.”

Towergate has its headquarters in London and employs 5,000 staff. Its agent on the letting was Trilogie CRE, while CBRE handles 3 Hardman Square which is owned by Credit Suisse Asset Management.

The rental terms were not disclosed.
