Affordable homes boost for Blackburn

CONTRACTORS have completed work on a £1.6m development in Blackburn that will boost the supply of affordable homes.

Specialist housing developer Mulbury Homes has built the properties, in North Road close to Queen’s Park, on behalf of housing association Twin Valley Homes.

Twin Valley Homes, which is Blackburn with Darwen’s biggest social landlord and is part of Together Housing Group, will make the new homes available for affordable rent.

The 16-unit scheme – been supported by the Homes and Communities Agency – features a mix of two and three-bedroom properties and meets level three of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

The development is located on a parcel of unoccupied land opposite another 16-unit affordable housing scheme that Mulbury Homes completed last year.

Greg Mulligan, a director at Mulbury Homes, said: “There is a lot of positive regeneration taking place in this area of Blackburn at the moment. Mulbury Homes is proud to be supporting these plans and helping to improve the supply of affordable housing for local people.”

Wendy Malone, head of project management at Together Housing Group, said: “The lack of affordable housing is a huge issue and as a group, we are building quality, affordable housing across the north of England.

“This is another scheme we are very proud of as it supplies fantastic new homes to communities that desperately need them.”

Manchester-based Harbur Construction has built the properties on behalf of Mulbury Homes.
