Avalon sets up bespoke funeral plan for football club fanatics

PRE-PAID funeral plans specialist Avalon based in Cheshire has teamed up with football club Huddersfield Town to provide a deal which is a first for the industry.
The Terriers’ Funeral Plan provides a Town-themed funeral which will cost £4,195 and includes a blue and white coffin or a traditional coffin draped with a Town shirt with the name and number of the deceased.
It is one of a number of partnerships and bespoke plans Wilmslow company Avalon is developing and is already in advanced discussions with other football clubs interested in offering similar plans to fans.
Paul Wilson, Avalon’s head of business development, said: “Our ethos is very much about getting people to think about their funeral – death shouldn’t be a taboo subject but it’s one we probably all shy away from.
“By partnering in this way, we’re getting people to talk about the subject with loved ones and rather than it becoming something that historically has always been a distress purchase, it becomes a process which helps celebrate a life, not a death.
“From our research we know that attitudes are changing towards having a sombre mournful funeral to more of a celebration of a person’s life. Our belief at Avalon is that a funeral plan should allow customers to have their passion in life recognised and celebrated at their funeral.”
Sean Jarvis, commercial director of Huddersfield Town added: “Our commercial deal means the club receives a benefit from plans sold so even when Town fans pass on they can leave a small legacy to the club. This isn’t for everybody but it’s another service we can offer.”
Avalon Trustee Company has additional offices in Alicante, Malaga and Cyprus.
