Nunsmere Hall sold for £5.35m

THE historic Nunsmere Hall Hotel in Cheshire  has been sold to family-run Highwater Estates for £5.35m.

Highwater acquired the property near Northwich from Prima Hotels which went into adminstration in May, resulting the sale of The Stanneylands Hotel in Wilmslow, the Hellaby Hall Hotel in rotherham and The Quorn Country Hotel in Leicestershire.

The new owner, which also has nearby Peckforton Castle, is now promising “significant investment” as it looks to breathe new life into one of Cheshire’s most celebrated manor houses.

Highwater’s Chris Naylor, managing director of Peckforton Castle, says he is planning a tasteful and unobtrusive revamp of the eye-catching Edwardian, lake-fringed estate, located on the outskirts of Northwich.

He said: “We’re very proud to take over such an historic building. Nunsmere Hall has huge potential and we’re all extremely excited.

“Having spent ten years building a very successful hotel with Peckforton Castle, we’re confident we can transform Nunsmere Hall too.

“Our Peckforton business model is fully transferable to Nunsmere and we have ambitious plans to make improvements.

“We’ll be investing in order to enhance the property’s already-significant appeal, focusing on making the interiors look less tired while avoiding any major construction work or disruption to guests.

“Simply put, we want to give Nunsmere the tender loving care it deserves.

“And we also want the property to be a big contributor to the local economy in terms of both jobs and local suppliers.”

Built in 1900, Nunsmere Hall sits in ten acres of manicured gardens and is bounded on three sides by a 60 acre lake.

With 36 individually-designed bedrooms, plus a two-rosette restaurant, impressive conference and events facilities, and it’s billed as the ultimate “romantic” wedding venue.

It’s also been awarded four “red stars” by the AA, an accolade that represents the most outstanding hotels in each star category.
