Youth Zone plans submitted to town council

PLANS have been submitted for the £1m Inspire, Chorley Youth Zone.

The application has been submitted to Chorley Borough Council for a site on Railway Street where The Arts Partnership and Leigh Arms currently stands.

The planning application follows a period of consultation with residents and youngsters in the town.

If approved, there will be a purpose-built facility for the town’s young people aged between eight and 19 and for disabled people up to 25.

The Youth Zone will offer close to 20 activities each night ranging from football, boxing dancing and climbing to creative arts, music, drama and employability training – all for just 50p per visit.

Chorley Youth Zone chairman Andrew Turner said: “A lot of hard work has gone into gathering the thoughts of young people, the council and local residents in order to prepare the Youth Zone’s planning application and we are now delighted to be in a position to submit.

“The young people of Chorley deserve an OnSide Youth Zone which will give them a safe and inspiring place to spend their leisure time, and we are on the road to making that dream a reality.”

Turner, chairman of the Chorley Group was appointed to lead the  Youth Zone in October 2015 before the Youth Zone’s branding was revealed a month later as ‘Inspire – Do your thing’ following consultation with more than 400 young people from across Chorley.

The Youth Zone is being created in partnership with Chorley Council, the Arts Partnership, Lancashire County Council and OnSide to make the new facility a reality for Chorley’s young people.
