Top baby names for 2015 released

ENGLAND and Wales’ favourite baby names for 2015 have been released ranking the names, Amelia and Oliver top.

The name Amelia – which has Latin origins meaning industrious – has bagged the top spot for the fifth consecutive year and the French name, Oliver has been the number one most common name for a baby boy since 2011.

Other names in the top 10 vary from one region to the next, but George, Jack and Charlie were consistent baby boy names across England for the year.

Ella, Emily and Olivia have all made it into the top ten baby girl names across the regions.

However, the North West is the only region in England to have a unique name within its top ten baby names.

Although 10th in the rankings, the name Scarlett – which derived from an English surname – has made it into the North West’s favourites.
