Property firm buys land in Somerset for housing development

Acorn Property Group has completed on the purchase of land in the Somerset village of Wedmore, where it will bring a new collection of nine houses.

The houses are an expansion of its popular Cross Farm development.

The new homes  will include two-bedroom semi-detached, plus three and four-bedroom detached houses, including a new four-bedroom barn-style property.

These will sit adjacent to the existing homes at Cross Farm, a collection of 31 properties launched by Acorn in 2020 and which are all occupied.

In keeping with the wider Cross Farm development, these newest homes will be designed to complement their village surroundings.

The use of stone, timber cladding and dark roof tiles will add a traditional touch to exteriors, while inside high-performance windows will allow plenty of light into living spaces and high-quality fittings such as fitted German kitchens with stone worktops add to a contemporary look.

Features to support energy efficiency include enhanced building fabric, air source heat pumps and solar PV panels.

Acorn will be making £182,000 of Section 106 contributions as part of its commitment to Cross Farm, of which £150,000 will be used to support new affordable housing.

“Our Cross Farm development has seen high demand, with almost every property sold off-plan. We’re excited to have the opportunity to bring more much-needed housing to the area,” said Robin Squire, regional managing director of Acorn’s Bristol office.

“Essentially phase two of Cross Farm, these newest homes will continue to reflect the local landscape and architecture while offering the modern comforts that can be expected of an Acorn home. We’re expecting strong demand when these properties launch for sale.”

Demolition works started on site in November, with construction of the new homes anticipated to commence in the new year. Completion of this phase is due to be complete within two years.
