Senior banking professional Mark Clayton is to step up to run Triodos Bank, a year after he joined the Bristol-based organisation.

Clayton, who is currently the chief operating officer at Triodos, will take over from Dr Bevis Watts who announced he would be standing down after nearly a decade in charge.

Gary Page, chair of Triodos Bank, said: “It was crucial for us to find a new CEO with the right values and passion for ethical and sustainable banking, as well as a strong understanding of our customers and a rapidly changing banking landscape.

“Mark has made a really positive impact since joining Triodos and we are confident he is the right person to lead the bank forward and deliver the impact we want to have.”

Triodos Bank is a sustainable bank and says its “mission is to make money work for positive change”. It is a B Corp which has more than 300 staff based in Bristol headquarters, and offices in London and Edinburgh.

Clayton said: “I am driven by a strong desire to protect the world around us and create a society that values dignity for all, empowerment and strong communities – and hugely honoured to be given the opportunity to do so at Triodos.”

Clayton spent 23 years at HSBC before spending three years as chief operating officer at Unity Trust Bank.
