A decision on whether to refuse permission for a waste landfill site in Devon has been delayed for two months.

The scheme in Kennford, near Exeter, was due to go before Devon County Council tomorrow afternoon.

Council officers had recommended refusal and their report to councillors had said “the scale, design and nature of the proposals would result in significant adverse effects on the distinctive agricultural character and scenic quality of the area”.

Devon County Council said a decision would now go before its April planning meeting “following a request by the applicant to submit further information”.

Previous proposals had been withdrawn in 2022, but the applicant BT Jenkins has returned with different plans. The 10-year scheme is for three phases of landfilling before restoring the fields to farmland.

The land is owned by the Taverner family that also owns the Orange Elephant Ice cream company, which is based near to the proposed landfill site.
