425 homes to be built at former RAF airfield

Housebuilder Keepmoat has announced a development of 425 new homes in Weston-super-Mare will be completed in partnership with Alliance Homes.

Alongside North Somerset Council, Keepmoat has today announced it will be partnering with Alliance Homes on the development to deliver 125 affordable homes.

Eighty-five properties are also due to be built as adaptable or accessible homes. All properties at the former RAF base will be delivered to the government’s Future Homes Standard specification.

To achieve the new homes regulations, which are set out to replace traditional Building Regulations for new dwellings in 2025, the homes in Locking will feature air source heat pumps, solar PV panels, increased levels of insulation and EV charging points.

The homebuilder has further strengthened its sustainability commitment in North Somerset by ensuring the entire development is gas free and this week has announced that 139 of the homes will be net zero carbon, an even higher standard of sustainability.

The sales centre at the new development has launched and piling work has started, with the first homes due to be available by spring 2024.

Amanda Bishop, regional managing director at Keepmoat, West Midlands, said: “We’re delighted to work with Alliance Homes to deliver 125 affordable, sustainable homes on the Parklands Village development.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for us to work in partnership with a fantastic housing association to provide much needed homes for local people.

“This development is also testament to Keepmoat’s commitment to implementing the new Future Homes Standard regulations. By applying the requirements within the legislation years before it comes into force, due in 2025, we’re continuing to improve our new homes for local people now and well into the future.”

Iain Lock, director of Investments at Alliance Homes added: “We’re delighted to be working with Keepmoat on this significant development in North Somerset. We’re committed to delivering high quality and sustainable new homes in the region and this substantial pipeline of 125 homes will greatly contribute to the delivery of much needed affordable housing over the next six years.”

Councillor Jenna Ho Marris, North Somerset Council’s executive member for homes and health said: “This is the first major residential project to be taken forward by the council as part of its Development Programme, with a strong focus on quality and sustainability, as well as the use of modern technologies.

“We want healthy and vibrant communities across North Somerset. This development, along with our partnership with the NHS to deliver the new 168 Parklands Medical Centre and the construction of new primary and secondary schools, will ensure that we deliver the mix of homes we need for the future and provide our communities with the facilities they want, right on their doorstep.”
