Building Briefs: SWIP, CD Engineering, Women in Property

INDUSTRIAL units in Oldbury and Minworth were part of a £60.5m property acquisition by Scottish Widows Investment Partnership.
The 1.32m sq ft portfolio was bought from St Martins and included the 7.5-acre, Junction 2 Industrial Estate at Oldbury which is made up of nine large industrial and warehouse units.
Also in the deal were the 14-acre Kingsbury Business Park and a five-acre distribution centre, on Forge Lane Estate, both in Minworth, along with sites in Slough, London, Bedford, Stockport and Glasgow.
SWIP was advised on the deal, named Project Blue, by Lambert Smith Hampton while Savills acted for St Martins.
The portfolio has an estimated rental value of £7m a year and Centurion Properties are managing the assets on behalf of SWIP.

A WORCESTERSHIRE firm whose products go into mine disposal in Afghanistan and the search for undersea oil has expanded its operations.
CD Engineering has moved from two separate locations in Redditch to take 6,843 sq ft of factory and warehouse space at the town’s North Moons Moat Industrial Estate.
The company makes hydraulic manifolds and is a supplier to firms selling to the Ministry of Defence, the oil and gas sector, agriculture, JCB and Caterpillar.
It has taken a 10-year lease on Unit 6 in Thornhill Road, at £24,000pa rent, and was advised by agent John Truslove.

FIVE students from West Midlands universities are competing to be named the region’s winner of the 2011 Women in Property Student Awards.
An awards ceremony is being held on May 4 in Birmingham to determine who will represent the region at the national event in September.
The scheme celebrates the best up and coming talent currently in the second year of built environment degree courses.
The five students are Layla Linehan of Aston University, Kerry Walker from the University of Birmingham, Liz Bailey at Birmingham City University, Lise-Ann Brennan from the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design and Caroline Simpson who is attending Wolverhampton University.
