Supermarket up for sale for first time in more than a century

Business property adviser Christie & Co has reduced the asking price for a convenience store in Worcestershire which has been in the same family’s ownership for over 110 years.

G.H.Bowkett in Tenbury Wells, which was successfully run by the Bowkett family as a traditional family business , is situated on the main road that continues from the high street and is surrounded by residential housing.

The sale of the former supermarket, which saw two generations of the family involved in the day to day operations, follows two of the lead directors in the company entering retirement from the retail convenience sector.

Dave Morris, director of retail at Christie & Co, said: “The Bowkett family worked incredibly hard to build their long-established family business, but now that the owners have retired, this is a fantastic opportunity to take on a substantial property in a prime location. The property is suitable for reopening as a store or may be suitable for development, subject to planning.”

The supermarket is being marketed at £480,000 for the freehold interest.
