Shropshire supermarket scheme takes next step

PLANS for a new Sainsbury’s supermarket in a north Shropshire market town have taken a step forward after the developers received backing from county planners.
Edinburgh-based development and investment group Terrace Hill reports today that it has received a minded to grant recommendation for the 30,000 sq ft store in Whitchurch.
It said the application was unanimously supported at a Shropshire Council planning meeting and would now be referred to the Department of Communities and Local Government.
Planning approval is expected within 21 days and construction work is due to start by next year summer for completion in 2013.
The unit in London Road near Whitchurch town centre will also have 300 parking spaces and has been pre-sold to the supermarket chain.
Head of retail at Terrace Hill Duncan McEwan said: “This planning recommendation at Whitchurch is another demonstration of our expertise in working with local governments and communities to progress sites through the planning process, and it is particularly pleasing that we received unanimous support for this scheme.”
