Beers ‘won’t disappear’ after brewer goes into liquidation

BEERS brewed by a Walsall firm which went into liquidation last week will continue to be on sale in the region’s pub.
Empire Star, owners of the brands produced by Highgate and Davenport Brewery, has announced that is plans to source new suppliers to make the drinks such as Highgate Mild and Davenports Original using the original recipes.
A spokesperson for Empire Star said: “Highgate and Davenports have been a major historical part of Birmingham and the West Midlands.
“Empire Star are currently in negotiation with a number of regional brewers who will be fulfilling orders of brands such as Highgate Mild, Saddlers Bitter, FGL Lager, England’s Glory, Davenports Original and Davenports Continental Lager with a strong focus on retaining the brand’s qualities.”
The spokesperson added that fans of the drinks “would not see them disappear from pubs”.
The brewer went into liquidation last week at the cost of 18 jobs and is now in the hands of insolvency practitioner KJ Watkin and Co, in Walsall.
It is the second financial crisis facing Highgate after it went into administration in September with reported debts of more than £1m.
It was sold for £80,000 to property developers Simon Toon and David Lindol.
