Malvern entrepreneur out to slay TV Dragons
A WORCESTERSHIRE entrepreneur is to pitch his idea for a new rotary washing line cover to TV’s Dragons.
Malvern inventor Malcolm Victory will present his creation, Rotaire, to the investors on this Sunday’s Dragon’s Den.
Victory, winner of the 2012 Prime Award for Senior Entrepreneur and Best Product from the Prince’s Initiative for Mature Enterprise and Sage One Accounts, said his knees turned to jelly as he entered the room to show the investors his product.
“I’ve never been in the same room as that much money in my life! When I walked onto the set it was exactly as you see it on the TV, the dragons ranged across in front of you,” he said.
The dragons are shown a video and given a two minute presentation of the Rotaire after which he is grilled about the product.
The Rotaire is a cover for rotary washing lines, designed to protect washing from the rain. Victory said the idea came to him while working with a lady who regularly got caught out by the rain while at work.
“Like so many, she needed to put the washing out before going to work, only to return to a ruined load of laundry,” he said.
The Rotaire has already has sold more than 5,000 units, with customers in New Zealand and Indonesia.
Victory’s appearance comes as he looks to secure funding to launch the product on the export market.
