Icknield Port Loop plans to go display

Icknield Port Loop

Detailed plans for the first phase of the Icknield Port Loop (IPL) development are to are go on public display.

The proposals include new homes, green space and proposals for the location of a new sports and swimming facility.

Outline planning permission for the IPL masterplan was granted in 2013, paving the way for a new development partnership between two of the country’s leading regeneration specialists, Places for People and Urban Splash.

The partnership is working with Birmingham City Council and the Canal & River Trust to deliver the ambitious project.

The partners have recently been working on the detailed design of the first phase of the 43-acre, canalside site – one of the UK’s biggest brownfield regeneration projects.

The masterplan includes up to 1,150 new homes, as well as retail and leisure facilities. The first phase to be brought forward will include 200 homes, some supporting commercial space, new areas of open green space and a new swimming pool for which a separate planning application will be submitted later.

The public exhibition and consultation will be held at The H Suite (also known as The Venue and formerly named the Centennial Centre), 100 Icknield Port Road, Edgbaston B16 0AA. It will be open to the public from Midday to 8pm on Monday March 27.

Visitors will be able to view the proposals, ask questions of the project team and provide feedback before a detailed planning application is submitted.

Adam Willetts, Senior Development Manager at Urban Splash, on behalf of the LLP, said: “The display will give local people an opportunity to look at the detailed design for the first phase of this transformational scheme that will combine the great heritage of the site with the latest construction methods and contemporary architecture.

“The proposals will help to combat the current shortage of new homes in the local area, as well as delivering new commercial and community facilities – including a new swimming pool for the city.  I would encourage anybody who lives, works or visits the area regularly to come along, see the plans for themselves, speak to the development team and leave their comments.”

For those unable to attend the exhibition, the proposals will be available to view at www.port-loop.com from March 27.
