Worcestershire law firm Thursfields has advised on a major deal in the safety solutions sector.

The deal has seen Rotherham-based Practice Care Maintenance Services (PCMS) acquire Liverpool firm VCI for an undisclosed sum.

PCMS, whose managing director Andy Chater lives in Worcestershire, provides market-leading intelligent maintenance and condition monitoring solutions for industry, particularly companies operating within a secure, sensitive or potentially hazardous environment.

Its national and international clients lie across the nuclear, power generation, rail, mining, shipping, pharmaceutical and refrigeration industry sectors, and include the Sellafield nuclear plant, British Gypsum, Network Rail, Alstom Transport, National Express and Joy Global.

VCI, which also has offices in Japan and Korea, provides a broad spectrum of specialist monitoring and condition assessment services for all classes of mechanical and electrical plant at sea, offshore and on land. Services include routine condition monitoring, trend assessment, emergency fault analysis, pre-overhaul, dry dock and new plant surveys.

Mr Chater said: “We understand the challenges faced by organisations to reduce maintenance costs, increase equipment reliability and avoid unnecessary machine downtime.

“That’s why we utilise a wide range of analysis tools, monitoring techniques and technologies to deliver a bespoke maintenance programme that is cost-effective and reliable.

“VCI is an excellent company and a great fit for us. It is a niche operation which specialises in shipping of all kinds, ensuring vital equipment is maintained and monitored on the high seas.”

The Thursfields’ team was led by corporate and commercial director Gareth Burge, who said: “We are delighted to have advised PCMS on this latest acquisition. We have been achieving record numbers of M&A deals and there are more in the pipeline.”

Newcastle-under-Lyme accountancy firm Slaters also advised on the deal.
