One of the founding members of UB40, Brian Travers, will be demonstrating his wider creative talents when his critically-acclaimed art goes on display at a Solihull gallery.

Travers, who found fame as the saxophonist in the Birmingham reggae band, has seen his pop-art gain international recognition and now he is set to bring his work back home to the West Midlands.

His ‘Icons’ collection will be displayed at Eaton Fine Art in Touchwood, where he will be making a personal apearance on Easter Monday at 5pm to talk about his work.

The vibrant and colourful collection includes a range of pieces with influencers including Jackson Pollock, Vincent Van Gogh and Travers’ own experiences as a member of UB40.

It has been 47 years since the sax-player arrived at Moseley School of Art, aged just 11, where he met his future chart-topping bandmates and started out on his artistic journey.

The songwriter turned abstract impressionist has recently been commissioned to create special portraits for icons such as the late David Bowie and Muhammed Ali.

After touring the world with UB40, Travers now finds himself doing the same with his art – completing shows with the prestigious Mary Martin Gallery in Naples, Florida and Charleston, North Carolina.

Following the exhibition in Solihull, Travers will see his art displayed at forthcoming shows in Dubai and Marbella.

Karen Blondel, from Eaton Fine Art, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming Brian Travers to Eaton Fine Art and have the opportunity to display some of his exceptional work in the exhibition.

“It is incredible that he is still touring as a musician and able to create brilliant pieces like these, his work is incredibly immersive and I am sure it will provoke thought from visitors.

“The exhibition will display pictures that Brian has taken of the world and then abstracted, it will be a very colourful display and we can’t wait to hear the stories behind the pieces from the man himself.”

Eaton Fine Art is Solihull’s only independent art gallery and has attracted work from some of the UK’s top artists since opening.
