St. Modwen completes handover of new training facility

A major new training facility in Worcestershire has been formally handed over to the organisation which will operate it.

Herefordshire & Worcestershire Group Training Association has taken possession of the two units at the Great Western Business Park development in Worcester.

The units, totalling 15,000 sq ft, have been built by St. Modwen. The scheme has benefited from funding from both Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership and Worcester City Council.

The new facility, which will open in August, will enable the association to provide training for several hundred people annually. Courses will be available at all levels, including Higher Apprenticeships.

Duane Sanger, chief executive at HWGTA, said: “We are very pleased at how quickly the buildings have gone up and the progress of the internal fit out work.

“The buildings will be fully operational by August, in readiness for the new apprentices to start in September.”

He said the units offered the association a facility fit-for-purpose and one that met the needs of local employers.

“With an additional mezzanine floor being added to the buildings, we will have circa 21,000 sq ft to deliver training in Engineering, Accountancy, Business Administration, Customer Service and Leadership & Management,” added Mr Sanger.

Gary Woodman, chief executive of Worcestershire LEP, said: “It’s great to hear that the handover has been completed. We’ve invested £950,000 of Government’s Growth Deal funds into this new specialist facility as we know how positive the impact will be in raising the skills of the local workforce and I look forward to seeing the facility officially open later this year.”

Jonathan Green, senior development surveyor at St. Modwen, said: “We’re pleased to be handing over the facility to Herefordshire & Worcestershire Group Training Association at Great Western Business Park.”

The third phase of development at Great Western Business Park has now been completed, adding a further 50,000 sq ft of prime space.

The phase consists of six units, ranging in size from 6,000 to 31,000 sq ft. It has been provided in response to ongoing demand from businesses seeking warehouse and light industrial space in the Worcester area.

Occupiers at Great Western Business Park include Benchmarx Kitchens & Joinery; car parts and accessories distributor Euro Car Parts; additive manufacturers Materials Solutions; vehicle and wearable technology distributor Nemesis GB; self-storage company Storage King and Altaras International, providers of precision components. Later this year a new Travis Perkins builders merchants will be opening on site.
