The general manager of one of Birmingham’s leading city centre hotels has been appointed to the board of the Colmore Business Improvement District.

Tony Elvin, general manager at Hotel du Vin & Bistro, Church Street, has been joined on the BID’s board by Alan Bain, business director for SYSTRA transportation consultancy.

The new appointees will respectively lead the BID’s Outstanding Places and Safe and Sound Working groups.

Mr Elvin said: “Having worked in Birmingham for almost five years now and spending the last four of those actively involved with the BID through the Food Festival and various other events and as a co-optee on the ‘Safe and Sound’ and ‘Place Marketing’ working groups, I was absolutely delighted to be invited on to the board.

“I am now very proud to be heading up the Outstanding Places group with some fantastically committed co-optees from around the district. After delivering on such successful BID Projects as Church Street Square and Colmore Square we are aiming to work with local businesses and have a serious impact on the fabric of our surroundings.”

Mr Bain said: “I’m eager to see Birmingham reconnect its transport network, tackling some of the barriers to movement that were created in the post war era and provide well designed public spaces that create a focus for the exchange of goods and services but also making space for high quality modes of transport such as Metro and active ones such as walking and cycling.”

Colmore BID covers much of the city’s business district. It represents more than 550 businesses in the business quarter, providing them with a platform from which to have an input into the area’s marketing, promotion, public realm, connectivity and safety. It is chaired by Gary Cardin, senior director at CBRE.
