African restaurant launch to create 25 jobs

Twenty five jobs have been created with the launch of an African themed restaurant in Birmingham following a £100,000 investment.

Nakira Bar and Grill, based on Birmingham’s John Bright Street, formerly Lobster Peninsula, is launching next Tuesday under new management.

The venue is fully kitted out with a braai – a large South African barbecue grill – and will serve a range of African cuisine, offering a selection of African game meats.

On the menu, diners can expect to find meats such as springbok steak and ostrich rump, and alpaca and crocodile burgers.

Originally from Zimbabwe, new owner Dexter Lasswell said: “I saw a gap in the market for an African themed game and grill restaurant, and thought it was too good an opportunity to miss. The venue is stunning and I wanted to turn it into a place where people can enjoy a relaxed African dining experience in elegant surroundings but without the high prices.

“We have a great team behind Nakira Bar & Grill including our highly trained bar manager Paulius Pabrinkis, and restaurant manager Nuno Pedro, who previously worked at Harvey Nichols Restaurant and Bar. I have high hopes for Nakira and our team is very excited to launch.”
