Jaguar Land Rover set to invest £40m in latest phase of Midlands expansion

Vehicle manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover has been revealed as the name behind new plans for a £40m development in Staffordshire.

The company is investing in a new vehicle storage facility on a 52-acre site at Stone Business Park.

The massive new development will provide secure storage facilities for 6,500 vehicles and is expected to create around 75 jobs.

Birmingham-based Stoford Developments will be delivering the new facility and plans for the site are set to be unveiled at public consultations tomorrow (Tuesday).

Stoford director Tony Nash said: “This development will bring significant inward investment into the county and will represent a major commitment to the region by Jaguar Land Rover, one of the world’s leading luxury car makers.

“The 52-acre site will primarily act as a new vehicle distribution centre accommodating up to 6,500 vehicles. It will provide the manufacturer with a high quality national delivery hub in a central location with excellent links to the motorway network. A highly secure site, it will also be very well landscaped to limit the impact on the surrounding area as much as possible.”

JLR is no stranger to Staffordshire; the county is home to its £1bn Engine Manufacturing Centre at the i54 site, north of Wolverhampton.
The plans also expand on storage expansion at both its Jaguar plant at Castle Bromwich and the main Land Rover plant at Solihull.

Earlier this year, the company was given planning permission to build a 300,000 sq ft (91,800 sqm) logistics facility and car park on land close to its Lode Lane site.

It has also acquired additional land around its Castle Bromwich plant so it can store new vehicles there, including the in-demand F-Pace.

The company is now producing vehicles at such a rate that the additional storage space is required ahead of transfer to various ports for export.

The latest plans have been submitted to Stafford Borough Council and the two-day public consultation takes place at the Stone House Hotel, Stafford Road, Stone, tomorrow and Wednesday between 4:30-7pm.

Mr Nash added: “We would encourage anyone that may be interested in learning more about the development, or who would like to express their opinions, to come along to the consultation so their views can be taken into account by the planning committee.”
