Peter Kay set for epic 12-night residency in Birmingham after agencies swamped for tickets

Comedian Peter Kay is set for an unprecedented 10-night residency in Birmingham after his return to the live stage after eight years swamped bookings at the Genting Arena.

Such has been the demand for tickets since the funnyman announced he was selecting Birmingham as the first city to perform his first live act since 2010 that the arena has run out of available dates and had added an extra two nights at the NEC venue’s sister site, Arena Birmingham.

His last tour in 2010 still officially ranks with the Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest selling comedy tour of all time, playing to more than 1.2m people.

The comedian said: “I know how lucky I am to be making television series and have really loved these past few years working on Car Share but I miss doing stand-up. As terrifying as it is, when it works there’s nothing more fun and exciting.”

The new tour will start at the Genting Arena on April 21, 2018, followed by shows on April 22,23, 27,28, May 1,2,5,6 and 7.

Additionally, extra dates have been added at Arena Birmingham for May 24 and 25.

Kay is not the only performer to prove popular.

When ELO frontman Jeff Lynne (below) announced he was returning to his native city for a show on October 10 next year, music fans rejoiced but the show at Arena Birmingham quickly sold out.

Due to the phenomenal demand, the arena has announced an additional show, which will take place at the city centre venue on October 12, 2018.

Looking ahead to the new shows, Lynne said; “Our audiences are amazing. It’s like they’re in the group. We can’t wait to play for them again.”
