£5m sports centre for prominent Birmingham school

Plans for a sports centre at King Edwards's School

Education construction specialist Stepnell has been selected to build a £5m sports centre for King Edward’s School in Birmingham.

The sports centre, which will be next to the school’s existing playing fields, is set to be completed in autumn 2018.

Stepnell construction director Bill Haynes said: “Our team bring significant expertise to this project and are delighted to be working in close partnership with King Edward’s School and BDP to help provide these first-rate sporting facilities for pupils and staff.”

Designed by BDP architects, the two-storey building – fronting on to Bristol Road – will house a four-court sports hall, a fitness suite, a large multi-purpose area, a classroom, changing facilities and a large foyer area. An internal bridge-link gives spectators access to a viewing gallery looking on to the main sports hall.

Dr Mark Fenton, chief master of King Edward’s School, added: “We are excited to be working with Stepnell on a project which will transform the sporting facilities at King Edward’s School.”
