Supermarket group signs on to anchor new retail scheme

A new retail scheme in the West Midlands has been boosted with the announcement of its anchor tenant.

The 50,000 sq ft scheme in the heart of Bromsgrove is being delivered by Coleshill-based IM Properties.

Plans for the new scheme (see below) have now taken a major step forward with supermarket retailer Lidl signing up for a 20,000 sq ft store on the Birmingham Road site. The store, which will open later this year, could create up to 40 new jobs.

The remaining 30,000 sq ft of space is being re-developed and surrounding areas landscaped to attract further high-profile national names.

Site work is already under way after IMP awarded the contract to locally based Benniman.

Richard Sykes, IMP’s development manager, said: “Lidl adds real profile to the site and will be a huge draw for shoppers to the park when it opens. We always believed Bromsgrove offered a great opportunity to expand our retail portfolio and we’re delighted to bring this significant economic boost to the town centre.

“Whilst pleasing to be able to announce the arrival of Lidl, we are confident we will be announcing more occupiers (soon).”

IMP, which is one of the UK’s largest privately-owned property companies, has a significant proportion of its £900m portfolio invested in the Midlands.

Its major schemes in the region include Mell Square Shopping Centre in Solihull, Blythe Valley Business Park, off J4 of the M42 and 55 Colmore Row in Birmingham, one of the largest mixed-use schemes in the city.
