The future of Birmingham’s commercial property sector is to be explored in depth at two special events being held in the city next month.

The impact of HS2’s arrival in the city is already being felt but the full implications of the £56bn rail network are likely to continue shaping Birmingham for decades to come.

Added to this, confirmation that the city will host the 2022 Commonwealth Games is likely to kickstart a major new phase of development – both residential and commercial.

The continued expansion of the city’s academic sector and the full development of Paradise and Arena Central will also be key to establishing Birmingham’s credentials as a 21st century city.

Practical matters such as building materials, innovation and skills will also have a bearing in shaping the future.

These and many other issues will be explored when TheBusinessDesk.com and international law firm Gowling WLG stage a breakfast seminar on February 15 to examine how technology is changing the face of real estate.

The panel discussion, which takes place at the law firm’s Two Snowhill offices, will examine how investment in technology is impacting on the property market, who and what is driving the change, and what is holding back innovation.

Panellists will also look ahead to the region’s presence at MIPIM 2018, which takes place in March.

The panel is:
Guy Gusterson, property director, St Modwen
Richard Belgrave, head of Europe, Leverton
Waheed Nazir*, economy director, Birmingham City Council
Mike Twining, partner, Gowling WLG
(*awaiting confirmation)

The seminar, which is free to attend is aimed at developers, funders, investors and other property professionals from across the region.

In conversation with TheBusinessDesk.com editor Alex Turner, Paul will give his views on how he thinks the region’s property market is performing and where the opportunities and challenges are. He will also discuss how the Midlands can make the most of the momentum it is currently enjoying.
