Housebuilder outlines contribution to regional economy

Housebuilder Barratt Homes West Midlands has outlined its contribution to the regional economy in a new set of figures.

The company, based in Halesowen, built 719 homes in its operational area during the past year and claims to have contributed more than £115.1m to the UK’s economic output.

The achievements are highlighted in a new report which measures the housebuilder’s social and economic contribution to West Midlands over the past financial year (July 1, 2016 – June 31, 2017).

The housebuilder’s Midlands coverage extends to Shropshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire, Oxfordshire, Herefordshire and the West Midlands.

Included within the company’s socio-economic footprint are key figures relating to its support for the housebuilding supply chain, local communities, environment, public services and employment.

The figures revealed the housebuilder:
· Supported 1,900 jobs directly and through its contractors and suppliers.
· Directly employed five new graduates, trainees and apprentices.
· Supported 370 subcontractor companies and 380 supplier companies.
· 90% of components used in the construction process were manufactured in the UK.
· Planted or retained 38,220 trees or shrubs on its developments.
· Spent £13.4m on local contributions including affordable housing sales and s106 contributions.

Adrian Farr, managing director, Barratt Homes West Midlands, said the company was very aware of the vital role it played in helping to boost the local economy.

“This can be through anything including job creation, strengthening surrounding businesses or enhancing and protecting the local environment.

The report on Barratt Homes’ Socio-Economic Footprint in 2017 was carried out by planning consultant, Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners (NLP).
