Work starts on Spire Healthcare’s £9m unit at Worcester Six

Work has begun on the construction of a £9m business unit for Spire Healthcare at the £120m Worcester Six Business Park.

Spire Healthcare, the UK’s biggest private hospital provider in terns of revenue, has agreed a 20 year lease on a 72,000 sq ft unit on the site in a move that could create around 60 jobs.

Spire Healthcare is a FTSE 250 listed company and is already a major employer in Worcestershire, with a hospital at South Bank in Worcester and The Spire Clinic in nearby Droitwich.

Stoford Developments’ Worcester Six Business Park, located just off the M5 at Junction 6, will provide a massive 1.5m sq ft of accommodation and will create around 5,000 jobs.

Mat Mason, who is leading on the project from Spire Healthcare, said: “This represents the next stage of our evolution, building on the solid supply chain and infrastructure that is already in place, which has served the business well for the last ten years. These are exciting times for all involved and will open up the next chapter of the Spire supply chain so we can continue to provide a first class customer service to the Spire Health Group.”

This unit will support Spire’s supply chain infrastructure and facilities in its warehousing operations. Spire already has a national distribution centre in Worcestershire, near Stonebridge Cross in Droitwich, where it occupies 60,000 sq ft, with 70 employees.

Gary Woodman, chief executive of Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, added: “Worcester Six is really beginning to take shape with Spire Healthcare becoming the second tenant to begin construction of their headquarters. The high profile investment opportunity has generated a large amount of interest, and Spire Healthcare is a really exciting addition to the site which will allow the local economy to prosper.”
