Legionnaires’ disease scare closes Wolverhampton hotel

Ramada Park Hall and Spa, Wolverhampton

A Wolverhampton hotel closed its doors after the discovery of legionella bacteria in its water.

The Ramada Park Hall Hotel and Spa shut the hotel to overnight guests on Friday, ahead of the busy bank holiday weekend, after being served with a prohibition notice from the City of Wolverhampton Council.

The notice banned the hotel from using its hot and cold water systems until a schedule of remedial works has been completed.

Cllr Steve Evans, cabinet member for City Environment at City of Wolverhampton Council said: “Although Legionnaires’ disease is rare and we are not currently aware of any cases in this instance, it’s important that we take the right precautions to prevent the risk of anyone falling ill.

“The council will now follow the legal process and work closely with the business to ensure the necessary works have been carried out and there is no longer a risk to public health.”

He stressed the council is “keen for the hotel to reopen” once the risk has been addressed.
