The West Midlands has gained its seventh Michelin star after Salt in Stratford-upon-Avon was recognised less than two years after opening.

Salt was launched in February 2017 by Paul and Rhiain Foster after raising £100,000 from investors and a crowdfunding campaign.

Paul Foster said: “Today has been the most amazing day of my career and ridiculously emotional.”

Salt joins four restaurants in Birmingham – Adam’s, Carters of Moseley, Purnell’s and Simpsons – as well as Peel’s in Hampton in Arden and The Cross at Kenilworth in holding a coveted Michelin star.

Foster learnt how to cook at his parents’ pub in Coventry before working in restaurants around the world. He was head chef at Mallory Court in Leamington Spa, before deciding to open his own restaurant.
