Milestone marked for £25m student scheme

Morgan Sindall Construction has topped out its development at the old Pebble Mill Studio in Birmingham as the £25m scheme has reached its half way stage.

The project, on behalf of Select Property Group, is the first Vita Student residential scheme in the Midlands and comprises 357 high-specification, self-contained studios.

The development of 115,000 sq ft is split into three tiered towers of four, five and six storeys each. There is a community hub-space of 6,500 sq ft, private dining facilities, study rooms, a games room, a cinema and a gymnasium.

The whole development will also benefit from 24 hour reception facilities, offering residents support and security.

The plan is for construction to be completed by the beginning of the 2019 academic year.

The area director of Morgan Sindall in the Midlands, Richard Fielding, said:”Universities play a key role in driving the Midlands Engine and we are proud to be delivering a number of telling contributions to support them in the region: both world-leading teaching facilities for the universities, and for pioneers in the student resi market, like Select Property group.”

“Providing first class environments for students to live, work and play is integral to attracting the best and brightest young minds.”

Subcontractors on the scheme include Paragon Building Consultancy and BWB Consulting.
