Developers progress with transformation of former cinema

A former cinema which has been empty for 10 years is being redeveloped into a mixed-use four storey residential development worth £5m.

The Old Picture House on Tamworth Street in Lichfield will offer 38 apartments, some with views over the Lichfield Cathedral.

The development will also comprise retail space on the ground floor and private under cover car parking.

Leicestershire based construction contractor QDTS is the main contractor instructed by Somerton Jones and Lodge Park Homes.

Terry Benson, managing director, QDTS, said: “The team at QDTS are very proud to be the main contractor for this project, and we can’t wait to see how it impacts the local community.”

The developer said the surrounding buildings to the apartments are grade two listed and the building will be keeping its façade.
