Contractor on course to deliver third multi-million pound warehouse at distribution park

Construction of the Beta unit is progressing well at CONNEQT in Cannock.

Construction contractor MCS Group is on course to deliver its third multi-million pound warehouse unit at a distribution park in Staffordshire.

The construction of the 129,550 sq ft unit at CONNEQT in Cannock is scheduled to reach practical completion in September. The unit includes 12 loading docks, 16 trailer spaces and 12,130 sq ft of offices.

West Midlands-based MCS Group was appointed by developer Opus Land to build the unit, known as Beta, after it completed an adjacent 153,635 sq ft unit, known as Alpha, at Kingswood Lakeside business park.

Industrial, storage and distribution construction specialists MCS Group also built an earlier phase – a 100,000 sq ft unit – for Opus Land, now occupied by First Choice Group.

MCS Group managing director Keir Edmonds said: “We’ve made a great start on the 129,550 sq ft Beta unit and we’re on course to reach practical completion on schedule in September. This is another excellent project and we are delighted to be working alongside Opus Land once again.

“We have already delivered two high quality warehouse units at this location and we’re proud to have played our part in creating an outstanding business park in a first class location, with links to major motorways right on the doorstep.”

The Kingswood Lakeside site was acquired by Opus Land and Bridges Fund Management, which has already delivered units occupied by Veolia, First Choice and the APC regional distribution hub on adjoining plots.

Victoria Turnbull, joint managing director at leading development and investment company Opus Land, said: “This project is reflective of one of the many high quality industrial projects Opus Land is currently involved in and MCS is on course to deliver the scheme on time, on budget and to an extremely high quality.”

Funding for the project came from Bridges Fund Management, Finance Birmingham and a grant from Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (GBSLEP).
